Note 1:  We will add a Veteran (age 50 & over) category if we get two or more teams in that age range.
Note 2: Any mixed team without the required minimum percentage of women will compete in the corresponding Men's category. For example, a team with 4 men and 1 woman will compete against the Open Men or Masters Men.

Safety
bullet

Runners must run on the left side of the road facing oncoming traffic unless otherwise directed.

bullet

Race officials will assist at intersections and exchange points.

bullet

Although we will have adequate aid stations, we highly recommend you carry a water bottle, especially if temperatures exceed 80 degrees.

Relay Race Rules
bullet

Each team must provide its own transportation during the race. Teams are strongly encouraged to use only one vehicle.

bullet

Team vehicles will display an identifying sign provided by the Race Director. To prevent road congestion, vehicles must not drive alongside a runner at his or her pace. Vehicles should proceed ahead to pull-offs or the next exchange point to drop off and pick up runners. No parking on the left side of the road!

bullet

Every team member must run at least 2 legs and finish both legs he or she starts. Teams will determine among themselves which legs members will run.

bullet

Teams must change runners at each exchange point.  That is, team members cannot run two consecutive legs.

Relay Race Team Tips
Click here for Ted Thull's tips on how to run a multi-stage relay.  Additional tips from the race director follow below:
bullet

Pick people who will be fun to be with for the day. You will have lots of time to talk and get to know each other better.

bullet

After you have recruited your team, give some thought to which team member should run each leg. The relay has 10 legs of varying length and difficulty.
bullet

Legs 1 and 6 together total 14.7 miles with no major climbs or descents. Assign this slot to a runner who is fast on the flats with good pacing sense and endurance.

bullet

Legs 2 and 7 total 8.0 miles with two climbs and descents. Pick a runner with happy knees and good downhill running skills.

bullet

Legs 3 and 8 total only 6.4 miles but include the challenging Bopple Hill climb, which almost everyone walks, and the moderate climb to Town Line Road. Pick a good climber.

bullet

Legs 4 and 9 total 9.5 miles.  There is a substantial descent on leg 4. Assign this slot to a runner who is comfortable running long down hills.

bullet

Legs 5 and 10 are relatively long at 11.5 miles and are flat. Leg 5 is short stretch of grassy rail to trail followed by flat to gently rolling roads.  Leg 10 gently trends down until the final steep drop into the college.  Assign this slot to another fast runner with good pacing sense and endurance.

bullet

Note:  Other creative mixes of legs for each team member are fine so long as there is a change of runner at each exchange point and every team member runs two legs minimum.

bullet

Competitive teams may want to pre-run the more challenging sections before race day.

bullet

Captains of less competitive teams may want to coach their runners to use the same techniques that the solo runners use: walk the ups and run a comfortable pace on the downs.

Rest Rooms & Showers
bullet

Restrooms and showers are located at the Start/Finish.

bullet

Restrooms are available at Onanda Park and at the Church in Middlesex.

bullet

There is the woods beside the road.
