The Year of the Three-Person Team
The three youngsters on NYC-2007 led start to finish despite a game chase mounted by the GRTC Masters.  Michael Wunsch ran three outstanding legs for the winning team:  only 17 seconds outside the record for Bopple Hill (leg 3), setting a new record by 36 seconds for West Avenue to Middlesex (leg 6) and only 5 seconds outside the record for Middle Road (leg 10).  Despite the conditions, the NYC-2007 trio ran the fourth best relay time in the five years the event has been held.  All in all, it was a stellar performance by three strong runners.

The GRTC Masters were in second place from the first leg, gradually losing time to the NYC-2007 trio until legs 8 & 9 where Ted Thull and Steve Scott managed to pull back almost five minutes of the deficit.  With this year's 5:56:42, masters teams organized by Ted Thull now hold four of the top 10 relay times run on the course.

The open women's winner was another trio.  Team Athena had a shot at breaking the women's record until the heat, humidity and heavy rain slowed them.  Of note, the women's record was set by Team Athena in 2006... a five woman team also captained by Karen Grover.
