Fast 10 to Onanda Park (10.04 miles) -  The GRTC Masters (Masters Men) set the record for the new route to Onanda Park with the Double Deucers (Open Men) just seconds behind.  The Ithaca PTs (Open Mixed) also flew to complete the leg only 1 minute back.  Team Athena (Open Women) showed early strength with the 4th fastest time, only 6 minutes behind the GRTC Masters and Double Deucers.  The Social Scientists (Open Men), 3 Homos & a Baby (Mixed Masters) and the anagrammatically-named "Mr. Ice's Bovine Corvette" (Open Men) all took a more conservative approach to the first leg.

Over the Big Hills (16.91 miles) - These two legs took the teams over the two big hills on the West side of the lake.  The Double Deucers set new leg records for both the Coye Cutoff and Bopple Hill legs to open up a 3 minute lead over the GRTC Masters.  The women of Team Athena ran strongly over the hills to lead the Social Scientists into Bristol Springs.  The Ithaca PTs were the 5th team into the exchange.  3 Homos and a Baby ran well over the hills to move up into 6th place while the Bovine Corvette continued to idle along in 8th place.

Halfway at Sunnyside (26.66 miles) - The Double Deucers continued to extend their lead over the GRTC Masters to 9 minutes.  The Social Scientists moved up into 3rd overall and 2nd in Open Men 39 minutes behind the Double Deucers.  The Scientists were closely pursued by the next 3 teams:  3 Homos & a Baby at 3 minutes back, the Ithaca PTs at 4 minutes back and Team Athena at 5 minutes back.  The Bovine Corvette was beginning to get it in gear and has moved up to 7th place.

Middlesex (31.36 miles) - The Double Deucers continued to set new records on each leg and extend their lead over the GRTC Masters to 11 minutes.  The Social Scientists had a good leg and opened the gap to the next 3 teams:  Team Athena and 3 Homos & a Baby at 9 minutes behind the Scientists and the Ithaca PTs another 2 minute back.  The Bovine Corvette was still cruising in 7th, 10 minutes behind the PTs.

Vine Valley (35.65 miles) -  At the front, the Double Deucers set yet another new record but this time, the GRTC Masters runner ran almost as fast to keep the Duecers lead in the 11 minute range.  Behind the lead duo, the Social Scientist continued to hold 3rd place but the Ithaca PTs had an outstanding leg to close the gap to only 5 minutes and move up to 4th place.  3 Homos & a Baby were in 5th only 2 minutes behind the PTs.  Bovine Corvette and Team Athena were 6th & 7th respectively at another 4 minutes back.

Town Line (38.81 miles) - The Double Deucers and GRTC Masters take time off the Open and Masters event records.  The Ithaca PTs had a great leg and arrived first at the top of the last major climb on the course.  The Social Scientists came in just behind followed by the 3 Homos & a Baby at 3 minutes down.  Team Athena and the Bovine Corvette arrived about 15 minutes later.

Arnold Road (42.51 miles) - The Double Deucer runner set their last leg record on the short leg to the Arnold Road exchange.  The Social Scientists retook 3rd overall and 3 Homos & a Baby passed the Ithaca PTs.  Team Athena and the Bovine Corvette held their 6th and 7th positions respectively.  Now all that remained was a final 7.5 mile leg to the finish.

Middle Road to Finish (50 miles) -  The GRTC Masters saved the best for last and team captain Ted Thull retained his leg record by besting the time of the Double Deucers anchor runner.  Of course, this only cut a couple minutes from the large margin the four younger runners had built up in the 8 previous legs.  The Double Deucers took over 14 minutes off the 2004 Open Men record of White & Clark.  The GRTC Masters tied to the second that same 2004 record and took over 10 minutes of the 2005 Oven Door Masters record.  F

Finishing over an hour behind the top two team, the Social Scientists took 2nd in Open Men, barely holding off the strong finish of 3 Homos & a Baby for 4th overall and a new Masters Mixed record (19 minutes faster than the 2004 Corning Pacers).  Fifteen minutes later, Mr. Ice's Bovine Corvette finally found the passing gear and came in 5th overall and 3rd in Open Men.  The Ithaca PTs finished only 36 seconds later to claim 6th overall and be the 1st place Open Mixed team.  Less than 90 seconds later, Team Athena came home with a new record for Open Women and 7th place overall.  Team Athena took a full 34 minutes off the 2004 record of the Game Farm Girls.

Special Notes

bullet

A Game Farm Girls team has finished all four races.  And this year, a second Game Farm Girls team ran.  FYI, the team name comes from Game Farm Road, a favorite route of these Ithaca women.

Ted Thull was the captain of the 2005 Oven Door Masters.  He recruited four new runners when none of last years runners were available this year.
